This year Caring for America is focusing on the Bakersfield Homeless Center, the Mission at Kern County, Bakersfield Dress for Success and Vet Friends Foundation.  These four agencies provide a multitude of support for our Kern County citizens, in the form of basic shelter, food baskets, a hot meal, professional guidance, interview clothing and providing support for veterans in our community who face losing their pet due to finances.  They also provide drug & alcohol counseling, medical, dental, mental health care, child care, after school programs, job placement; they assist in helping people obtain their GED and offer other computer classes.  You can learn more about these organizations; we’ve supplied you with their websites.  Take a moment and peruse their organizational websites; you’ll get a better idea of the good work these three organizations are doing to help those in need.

What can the BRWF do to help support these two organizations fulfill their mission? Plenty, you can start by looking around your house; do you have items that you no longer want, need or have extras of that are still useable?

  • Women work cloths (skirts, dresses, slacks, blouses, jewelry, dress shoes, and handbags)
  • Clothes (Men, Women & Children)
  • Underwear
  • Work boots
  • Canned food items
  • Magazines & books
  • Toiletries and/or feminine hygiene products

When you go out shopping, consider purchasing items such as nice smelling shampoos, conditioners, razors, hygiene products (this is an on-going need), shaving soap, towels and washcloths.  Even the little bottles of shampoo, conditioner and bars of soap you get in your hotel room while traveling are greatly appreciated; every little bit helps.

Please bring your donations to our monthly luncheon and we will make sure they get to one of these agencies.  If you don’t want to carry your donations up with you, please contact Bakersfield Republican Women Federated Co-Chairwomen Chereyl Nunn via email at cnunn@loandepot.com or by phone at (661) 335-1641, Marisa Cornejovia email at build_dream_homes@yahoo.com or by phone at 661-342-4788 prior to our monthly luncheon to make arrangements to handle your generous donation.
